South Africa

We went to Cape Town for a few days on a stop over on our way back from Namibia and I regret not spending more time there. We managed to squeeze in a day at the Cape of good hope but I feel like there is so much more to see. I definitely need to go back and explore more.

Bo-Kaap -@ To get to know the city we started with a private guided tour that focussed on the colourful neighbourhood Bo-Kaap.
»  notes
Bo-Kaap -@ The area contains the largest concentration of pre-1850 architecture in South Africa, and is the oldest surviving residential neighborhood in Cape Town
»  notes
Bo-Kaap -@ Bo-Kaap means "above the Cape" and is situated on the slopes of Signal Hill above the city centre
»  notes
Bo-Kaap -@ I felt pretty safe in Cape Town but if you look closer you can see that so many residential buildings have big fences and walls as well as gated areas and door men.
»  notes
Bo-Kaap -@ On a side note... we struggled with the currency and paying our guide we ended up giving a tip that probably meant he could take the rest of the week off... oh well.
»  notes
Bo-Kaap -@ The bright houses mixed between new and old buildings were just really wonderful.
»  notes
Bo-Kaap -@ I always thought the houses and cars looked a bit like what I expect Cuba to be like.
»  notes
District Six Museum -@ On a rainy day we decided to go to this incredible museum that serves as a memorial to the forced movement of 60,000 inhabitants of various races in District Six during Apartheid in the 1970s.
»  notes
Street Art -@ There is a lot of incredible street art in Cape Town like this one
»  notes
Street Art -@ And another beautiful example!
»  notes
Table Mountain -@ We took the cableway to reach this famous flat-topped mountain forming a prominent landmark overlooking the city of Cape Town
»  notes
Table Mountain -@ The view from up there is amazing and Cape Town is so lucky to have both mountains and the sea.
»  notes
Table Mountain -@ Hiking on Table Mountain is popular amongst locals and tourists, and a number of trails of varying difficulty are available.
»  notes
Table Mountain -@ It is home to a large array of mostly endemic fauna and flora as well as this little guy - a Rock Hyrax, locally known as the Dassie.
»  notes
Seal Island -@ Our first stop on our day trip to the Cape Peninsula was Seal Island - a small land mass that is occupied by a great number of Cape Fur Seals.
»  notes
Boulders Beach -@ The next stop was Boulders Beach, a popular tourist spot because of a colony of African penguins which settled there in 1982
»  notes
Boulders Beach -@ Looking at their cute walks always made me have a funny youtube video voice in my head, dubbing their thoughts.
»  notes
Cape Peninsula -@ After a bus ride followed by some biking we hiked to get to this spot, at the south-western extremity of the African continent
»  notes
Cape Peninsula -@ Really far away from two places I used to call home.
»  notes
Cape Peninsula -@ On our way to the famous Cape of Good Hope signs we hiked along this beautiful trail.
»  notes
Cape of Good Hope -@ Before descending to the Cape of Good Hope sign, this guy clearly took some risk to get the best shot.
»  notes
Cape of Good Hope -@ There it is, the famous sign!
