Hong Kong

Hong Kong seemed like the perfect stop-over on our trip to Vietnam. I have to be honest, we were very unlucky with the weather and were left with an impression of a dirty, polluted and grey city. I'm sure we would have liked it more in sunshine though so maybe I have to go back one day...

Sky100 -@ Sky100 is a 360-degree indoor observation deck on the 100th floor of the International Commerce Centre, currently the 12th highest building in the world.
»  notes
Sky100 -@ The view was spectacular despite the bad weather. The sheer endless concrete landscape of mainly apartment buildings is pretty insane.
»  notes
Sky100 -@ No matter which direction you look, there will be skyscrapers all around.
»  notes
Waiting for the bus -@ An old trick to make photos in grey weather and grey concrete look more vibrant - use black and white!
»  notes
Busy -@ A typical shot around rush hour in central Hong Kong.
»  notes
Apartment Buildings -@ I was frankly quite shocked at how bad the living conditions are for most people. Despite horrendous rent prices, the apartments look awful and the laundry hangs in the smog.
»  notes
Postcards -@ We came across this lovely art installation from people all over the world adding their wishes, memories and dreams.
»  notes
Postcards -@ The postcards were all unique and in different languages, making it a very inspiring place to be.
»  notes
Construction -@ I noticed that instead of steal or wood, construction sides were solely made from bamboo.
»  notes
Some green -@ A vibrant tree providing some nice contrast to the grey skies and grey buildings.
»  notes
River -@ A colourful boat also providing some contrast and a reminder of Hong Kong's more traditional side.
»  notes
Hong Kong Park -@ This is the Edward Youde Aviary which is Hong Kong's largest aviary. The canopy is home to several exotic birds, basically a little zoo for free.
»  notes
Peak Galleria -@ Riding a tram at a nearly 45 degree angle you get to this platform where you are supposed to have the best views of Hong Kong. On a sunny day.
»  notes
Jumbo Floating Restaurant -@ A bit outside the city center you can jump on a little boat to go past the famous Jumbo Floating Restaurant.
»  notes
Jumbo Floating Restaurant -@ More fascinating for me were the endless surrounding awfully grey and shabby apartment buldings.
»  notes
Tourist spot -@ We were taken to this spot for its view... I have never seen an uglier view - grey concrete and polluted rivers. Other tourists were somehow fascinated by it and took a lot of selfies. We couldn't quite grasp what it was we were missing.
»  notes
Night rain -@ Wondering around in the evening it poured down non stop and the view once again was rather disappointing.
»  notes
Night rain -@ At least what could have been a busy tourist spot turned out to be just for us and a handful of other wet weirdos.
»  notes
The Big Buddha -@ Another rainy day took us to the Big Buddah, a major centre of Buddhism in Hong Kong, and also a tourist attraction. The statue is 34m tall and the tallest outdoor seated Buddha image in the world.
»  notes
The Big Buddha -@ Surrounding it are six smaller bronze statues that are posed offering flowers, incense, lamp, ointment, fruit, and music to the Buddha.
»  notes
Po Lin Monastery -@ The gate of Po Lin Monastery sits at the bottom of the Big Buddah statue and is an attraction itself.
»  notes
Po Lin Monastery -@ Inside a small temple close to the main attraction.
»  notes
Happy Valley Racecourse -@ It's actually free to go to this race track in central Hong Kong and it's definitely a great experience to see the race in this venue which can hold 55000 people.
»  notes
Smiling -@ Despite the rain and the humidity and the smog and certainly one of the worst hotels I've ever been to.
»  notes
My best shot in Hong Kong... -@ ... is a photo of some wonderful drawings!
