Vietnam

This trip was with some of my best friends from school and we wanted to see both some of Vietnam's amazing nature as well as the buzzing city life of the capital. I believe the streets of Hanoi are where street photography must have been invented!

Hanoi Street Life -@ Hanoi is THE place for people watching. The streets are busy and buzzing and very different from Europe. This is a cafe, sit down on the tiny chairs and get served - if you don't mind the waiter cutting their toe nails.
»  notes
Hanoi Street Life -@ People are incredibly poor and everybody tries to sell things on the street. You'll find them carrying around their goods to be sold for the day all the time.
»  notes
Hanoi Street Life -@ How they manage to live with their shoulder and back pain is a mystery to me...
»  notes
Hanoi Street Life -@ This guy makes his living with selling sweets. Another cafe in the background, ready for customers to sit down.
»  notes
Hanoi Street Life -@ I'm glad at least one of them wears a helmet!
»  notes
Hanoi Street Life -@ Time for lunch, just have a seat and get your meal cooked in ront of you.
»  notes
Hanoi Street Life -@ Buy your greens from the streets!
»  notes
Hanoi Street Life -@ Hanoi streets are loud and FULL of motor cycles. This is not the start of a race, this is the typical waiting at a red light.
»  notes
Hanoi Street Life -@ While locals just take their chances and simply cross the road, tourists wait forever, hoping for a gap to squeeze through... There is none.
»  notes
Hanoi Street Life -@ How is this even possible...
»  notes
Temple of Literature -@ An impressive tree just outside the touristy Literature Temple
»  notes
Temple of Literature -@ This temple in the center of Hanoi was built in 1070 and offers some peace from the busy street life.
»  notes
Temple of Literature -@ There are various pavilions, halls, statues and altars like this one.
»  notes
Hoan Kiem Lake -@ A beautiful hidden temple close to the Hoan Kiem Lake.

Hanoi Nightlife
»  notes
Hanoi Nightlife -@ A typical scene at night time all around the city - friends having dinner on the street.
»  notes
Hanoi Nightlife -@ View from a rooftop bar
»  notes
Hanoi Nightlife -@ The three of us enjoying the nightlife
»  notes
Ninh Binh -@ We booked a day tour to the Ninh Bin province with our first stop offering the beautiful view of landscapes dominated by the mountains of Non Nuoc and Canh Dieu.
»  notes
Ninh Binh -@ Our guide then brought us to Hoa Lu, an ancient capital of Vietnam.
»  notes
Ninh Binh -@ One of two temples we visited in Hoa Lu.
»  notes
Ninh Binh -@ We boarded a little boat like this at Tam Coc wharf to visit several caves along the river.
»  notes
Ninh Binh -@ The heavy tourists are being shipped around by strong legs.
»  notes
Ninh Binh -@ The landscape was amazing, yet the frequent stops by other boats wanting to sell fruit to tourists was just awful.
»  notes
Mai Chau -@ Another two day trip took us to Mai Chau, a scenic district that attracts many tourists. This photo was taken overlooking Mai Chau valley just before we decended down to the little town.
»  notes
Mai Chau -@ The nature here is very calm and peaceful and a welcome change from buzzing Hanoi.
»  notes
Mai Chau -@ On a bike ride we saw farmers working in fields as well as locals weaving scarves.
»  notes
Mai Chau -@ I'm not sure how the locals feel about the rich tourists biking past them working in the fields...
»  notes
Mai Chau -@ We spent the night in a communal dorm in the attic but there are also touristy bungalows around like in the back of this photo.
»  notes
Mai Chau -@ We hiked up the 1000 steps to a cave which offers this view of the valley. Because of the very high humidity, the climbing made me sweat more than I ever have in my entire life...
